ultrasound Therapy

Effective Relief

When pain and inflammation slow you down, ultrasound therapy can be a powerful tool in your recovery process.

At Functional Spine Chiropractic in Tampa, our team uses therapeutic ultrasound to help patients heal soft tissue injuries, reduce inflammation, and restore mobility without relying on painkillers, anti-inflammatory drugs, or invasive procedures.

This gentle, targeted therapy is often used alongside chiropractic adjustments, corrective chiropractic care, and other types of rehabilitation to accelerate healing and support long-term results.

How Does it Work?

Therapeutic ultrasound is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-frequency sound waves to penetrate deep into muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. These sound waves create gentle vibrations at the cellular level, which helps increase blood flow, reduce swelling, and break down scar tissue. By stimulating soft tissue repair from the inside out, ultrasound therapy promotes faster healing and reduces pain caused by inflammation or restricted movement.

Unlike diagnostic ultrasound, which is used to capture internal images, therapeutic ultrasound delivers continuous or pulsed energy to stimulate tissue repair. The sound waves generate heat in the targeted area, enhancing circulation and metabolic activity—two key factors in natural healing. It’s an ideal therapy for chronic injuries, postural stress, overuse conditions, and recovery after acute trauma.

Does Ultrasound therapy hurt?

No, not at all. Ultrasound therapy is generally very comfortable and painless. Most patients feel a gentle warmth or mild tingling in the treated area, but no discomfort.

Are there any  side effects?

Ultrasound therapy is very safe when performed by a trained professional. Side effects are quite rare, though some patients have reported mild redness or feeling some warmth in the treated area which is very temporary.

How long does the whole thing take?

Sessions typically last between 5–10 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated and the severity of the condition. Overall, the course of treatment depends on your specific condition, something that our doctors will determine.

Our Process

Ultrasound therapy is simple, painless, and requires no downtime. After a detailed evaluation of your condition, a full exam, and thorough understanding of your specific condition, Dr. Matias, Dr. Orta, or a member of the team will begin by applying a specialized ultrasound gel to the affected area to facilitate smooth transmission of the sound waves. They will then use a handheld device to deliver therapeutic energy through the skin and into the soft tissues below.

Sessions are typically brief, lasting only a few minutes depending on the size and severity of the area being treated. Most patients describe the sensation as warm and soothing, with immediate relief in some cases. As part of your overall care plan, the team will recommend a series of sessions based on your diagnosis, goals, and response to treatment.

Ultrasound therapy may be paired with corrective exercises, spinal traction, or chiropractic adjustments, depending on your unique needs for best results. The goal is always the same: to support your body’s healing process from every angle.
