Shockwave Therapy

REvolutionary Pain Relief

When chronic pain, stubborn injuries, or soft tissue conditions don’t respond to traditional treatments, shockwave therapy may offer the breakthrough your body needs.

At Functional Spine Chiropractic, Dr. Victor Matias and his team integrate shockwave therapy into various treatment plans designed to accelerate healing, reduce pain, and restore movement especially in cases where inflammation and scar tissue have built up over time.

In conjunction with corrective chiropractic care, patients report noticeable and immediate relief from stubborn pain and discomfort that had been nagging them for years.

How Does it Work?

Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive, safe, painless, and effective treatment that uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate cellular regeneration and blood flow in areas affected by chronic pain or injury. It’s especially effective for conditions involving muscle tension, tendon inflammation, joint pain, or delayed tissue healing. Commonly used in sports medicine and orthopedic care, shockwave therapy is now a powerful complement to chiropractic care, helping patients recover faster and avoid surgery or long-term medication use.

At Functional Spine Chiropractic, our team uses focused shockwave therapy to break up adhesions, reduce inflammation, and stimulate the body’s natural healing response. The therapy triggers a controlled microtrauma that encourages tissue repair while increasing metabolic activity in the treated area. As a result, pain often decreases, mobility improves, and patients can return to activity with greater comfort and function.

Does shockwave therapy hurt?

Yes… when performed by a trained healthcare professional, shockwave therapy is very safe. It’s FDA-cleared, non-surgical, and has minimal side effects, making it a well-tolerated option for many musculoskeletal conditions.

Does Shockwave Therapy hurt?

Most patients experience little to no discomfort during treatment. You may feel mild pressure or tapping sensations as the sound waves are applied, but it’s generally well-tolerated and most people say it feels “therapeutic.” Any temporary soreness usually fades within 24 to 48 hours.

How long does the whole thing take?

Each session could take about 10 to 15 minutes. Overall, most patients see results within 3–6 sessions, scheduled about a week apart. Your exact treatment plan will depend on your condition, goals, and how your body responds to therapy.

Our Process

Your visit begins with a thorough exam and focused consultation and evaluation by Dr. Matias and Dr. Orta to determine whether shockwave therapy is the right fit for your specific condition. Using their expertise in musculoskeletal function and spinal biomechanics, our team will pinpoints the exact source of your discomfort and customize your treatment accordingly to achieve optimal results.

The therapy itself is delivered using a handheld device that emits sound pulses to the affected area. Most patients report only mild discomfort similar to a deep tissue massage. Sessions typically last less than 15 minutes. Depending on your condition, the doctors may recommend a short series of treatments, spaced out over several weeks, to achieve optimal results.

Shockwave therapy requires no downtime. You can return to your daily activities right after the session, though Dr. Matias and Dr. Orta may advise modifying certain movements or exercises as your body begins to heal.
